I think in 2009 I spent a few months savings in an iPod touch which I used constantly until 3G was a thing and I could scrobble straight from my phone. I was never fond of scrobbling the cds I listened to on the go when I got home, so all of that is lost. I guess I was lucky because I had no audio system at home so all music I listened to was through my computer the first couple of years, and being CD rips or plain mp3s, those were easy times to scrobble, because I linked Winamp or WMP to a last.fm plugin.

However the earliest versions of this software didn't log the time you listened to, but the time you synced. And when you'd sync with iTunes the last.fm scobbler would log and upload them. I started in 2007, and by that time I was already in my second or third year of college and listening to music on an iPod Classic (128gb, I think).
